The course aims to help appropriately trained health and social care staff obtain accurate observations, calculate and interpret NEWS2 correctly, recognise deterioration and escalate concerns without avoidable delay.
This course is suitable for healthcare assistants, senior carers, nursing associates, registered nurses and other staff authorised to undertake physiological observations in care homes, community services and comparable adult care settings.
Completion alone does not confirm practical competence. Staff must receive equipment training, supervised practice and workplace competency assessment before undertaking observations independently.
NEWS2 is primarily intended for adults aged 16 years and over. It should not be used in children or during pregnancy. Some people require modified monitoring or specialist clinical interpretation.
